We are thrilled to announce that Trade Winds is offering a Pre-trades Ironworker Program for First Nations people in Calgary and Treaty 7 Nations. The program is in partnership with Ironworkers Local 725, Community Futures Treaty 7, and Aboriginal Futures.
The demand for ironworkers in Alberta is on the rise, as this robust skilled trade plays a vital role in the construction industry by fabricating, assembling, and installing the steel and metal components that form the framework of buildings, bridges, and other structures. Ironworkers interpret blueprints and specifications, unload and organize steel materials, assemble rigging, erect scaffolding and hoisting equipment, and work closely with crane operators to safely position and install heavy structural components. Their work requires precision, technical skill, and a strong commitment to safety to ensure structures are built to exact specifications.
Our program is designed to give you the career skills, hands-on skills and certifications to start a career in Alberta’s ironworking industry. Once you complete the program, an ironworker apprenticeship is 3 years, with an average salary of $94,083 a year as a journeyperson. This program will run from September 28, 2026 to December 18, 2026.
