Hayley Wright – Apprentice Carpenter

September 2, 2026

My name is Hayley Wright, and I am a first-year apprentice carpenter, a proud Métis woman, and a 2025 graduate of Trade Winds’ Residential Construction Program.

When I started my journey at Trade Winds, I was taking a leap of faith, at that time I felt like I had nothing to lose. That leap changed my life.

By taking the opportunity to expand my skills it taught me things about myself that I didn’t know were there. In the past, I have struggled to find stability and rebuild myself after many of life’s challenges.

This experience reminded me of my resilience, reinforced that I am capable of achieving great things and that there is always an opportunity to learn and grow.

I have developed an unbreakable sense of confidence within myself, where I know I can do anything I put my mind to, even when I feel discouraged. I not only found a sense of self, but I’ve also acquired so much knowledge, developed many skills, connected with my culture, and made lifelong friendships.

I felt such a strong sense of belonging with the amazing staff and like-minded individuals, all wanting to grow and build a beautiful life for themselves.

Since completing the program, I have started my career as an Apprentice Carpenter, and I’m working with an incredible, safe, supportive, and accommodating company, Delnor Construction. Soon to be a Second-Year Apprentice!

I have had the opportunity to work on hospitals and schools, contributing to projects that benefit the community while building myself to become stronger every day.

If anyone wants a better life for themselves but doesn’t quite know how to achieve it, Trade Winds has your back. You’ll never know what you’re capable of without taking that one leap of faith.
