Logan Sweezey

First Year Plumber Apprentice

July 19th, 2019

Logan Sweezey

Logan Sweezey is a Cree, from Poundmaker First Nation in Saskatchewan.
Logan’s past was he frequently was in trouble with the law, part of the revolving door of the justice system. He did not have many jobs or much training prior to our training but was optimistic about his future at Trade Winds to Success. Especially after attending our info session and heard what we had to say about helping Indigenous people gain meaningful careers in the trades.

He started his journey at the Edmonton Trade Winds program back in 2017-2018. He originally went for the boilermaker trade but he ended up coming back and pursuing his career as a plumber.

He started the Trade Winds to Success program here in Calgary on April 1, 2019 and completed the union shop training at the PITS Local 496 Pipefitters and Plumbers Training school, on July 19, 2019.
He currently is a union member and has a union job as a first-year plumber, at SE Johnson. His pay is $20.00/hour and makes quite a bit more than what he is used too. Him and his wife just had a baby and are financing a new vehicle, which they can afford to do now.

Logan was a dedicated and eager student and really wanted a career not just a job. He often comes in when other groups are just starting out and speaks to them about his past, his experience at Trade Winds and his life now.

He has a really great story and lets others know if he can do it, they can too. That it is possible, he is living proof. He says it’s not always easy but with the right motivation, determination and the incredible support from the right people, like at Trade Winds, it is possible!

The truth is you don't know what is going to happen tomorrow. Life is a crazy ride, and nothing is guaranteed ~ Eminem

Logan says he lives by Eminem and he can relate to his lyrics. He feels he has come a long way from where he was 3 years ago. I agree and we are very proud of him here at Trade Winds for making the most of his experience with us.

Good job Logan, we know you will achieve your dream of earning your Red Seal Journeyman Ticket in Plumbing and we will always be here for you.
